Here are some frequently asked questions from our new yoga students.

What do I wear to yoga and what do I need to bring with me?

Yoga is done barefoot; no socks or shoes needed. Wear comfortable workout clothing that you can move in. Shorts or workout pants and a tee shirt or tank are great. You can purchase yoga gear and  props in our studio boutiques. We also have mats to rent for $2.

What yoga etiquette should I be aware of?

Students should be quiet when entering the yoga rooms as this is a time for centering and preparing for the practice of yoga asana. Please turn your cell phone off before entering any class. (Of course, we invite you to use your cell phones and hang out with friends in our free wifi-equipped cafe and lounge.) We work hard to create a tranquil environment at Kaia Yoga and appreciate you limiting cell phone use while at our centers. Use your time to decompress by turning off and tuning in! No perfumes, please! Some students are very sensitive to smell and even a fragrance from  across the room can be a distraction. Please also come to class clean and be mindful if you tend to give off any unpleasant odors!

What should I eat before class?

We suggest you do not eat a heavy meal at least 2 - 3 hours before class. If necessary have a light snack before attending class, maybe a piece of fruit or juice.

How early should I be there before class?

It is a good idea to arrive at the studio 10 to 15 minutes before class. This gives you some time to change, sign in and set up your mat and props and most important, decompress and relax. Please be quiet as you enter since this is a time for centering and preparing for the practice of yoga asana.

Do you offer any classes for absolute beginners?

Our basic classes are a great place to start, as well as any yin, restorative or gentle classes. Beginners are also welcome in the ashtanga mysore program. We frequently offer absolute beginner series that run for 4 weeks — a great way to learn the basics in a small class setting.
